5. Economy

1. We have a great diversity of resources, skills and talents within our area.

2. But there has been a decline in our local economy with farming and industry depending more and more on government and EEC subsidies.

3. Solutions. So we need to develop a local economy supplying the real needs of the people within the community.
   • We can manufacture many of our requirements by processing raw materials that are produced locally. For example we can produce trees, food, power, etc. and from these resources manufacture timber, building materials, furniture, paper, textiles etc.
   • Start up a Local Exchange Trading Scheme incorporating a local income tax.
   • Tourism, an emotive issue, could be handled positively to encourage visitors to be environmentally and culturally sensitive.

 

• Energy: Locally based power production, surplus sold to grid
• Community: Locally organised economys involving and connecting people
• Land-Use: Productive, sustainable mixed forest\farming and aquaculture
• Employment: Meaningful work for local people
• Environment: Non-exploitative economy, leaves room for wildlife
