Local Dwellings. (Hermon)

There are no other dwellings already on the unit. There is no existing accommodation in the area which is suitable and available for occupation by the workers concerned. Please also note that the houses listed below are all within one kilometre of the holding;

Penrhos Isaf (the original farmhouse that went with the holding, situated some fifty metres above the site in the forest). Leased to the Mountain Bothy Association by Forest Enterprise as (in theory) an overnight stopping place for walkers.

• Penrhos Uchaf. Now derelict.
• Ty’n Y Mynydd. Now derelict.
• T’yn Y Benrhos. Holiday home.
• Maes’r Eglwys Wen. Holiday home.
• Ty Mein Permanently occupied; one occupant.
• Ffriog. Permanently occupied; one occupant, previously a farm house.
• Cae’n Y Coed. Permanently occupied; previously a farm house.
• Bryn Prydydd. Permanently occupied; one occupant, previously a farm house.

The above clearly shows that in the past considerably more people were living in the Hermon area who were actively involved in agriculture and related occupations. Further north, into the uplands, are more dwellings within the community of Hermon and then the community of Abergeirw. It should be clear that we would not be an isolated dwelling in previously un-occupied land; indeed, we would be re-occupying a redundant small holding.
