This is an area of outstanding
scenic beauty containing a great diversity of habitats, a mild westerly climate
with pure air and abundant rainfall.
But it is subject to an intensification
of agriculture and monocultural forestry leading to the destruction of habitats,
a loss of wildlife diversity and contamination of air, land and water by pollutants
such as radiation, sewage, heavy metals, dry deposition (of for example nitrates),
acid rain and other chemical poisons such as sheep dip, pesticides and herbicides.
Solutions. Limit pollution at
source. Work with nature, not against it. Create land use systems that provide
for and enhance wildlife.
Adequate recycling of resources
to avoid pollution
Air;
create clean power using
local renewable resources.
rely more on non-polluting
resources generally.
Land;
organic forest farming.
Water;
utilize sewage for power
and fertilizer and prevent it from entering water courses
